Moranbah Power Station

The Moranbah Power Station was originally built in 2004 with an installed capacity of 12 MW in Moranbah, QLD. The Moranbah Power Station supplies electricity to QPME to operate their gas compressors which extract and transport coal seam methane for beneficial use.

The site consists of 8x 1.5MW gas fired reciprocating generators with the facility operating as a peaking plant. Carbon Logica owns the facility with QPME operating the site.

The project significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions through converting methane to electricity. The project will also be converted to utilise coal mine waste gas that would otherwise be flared.

The Moranbah Power Station saves more that 12,500 tCO2e per year which is the equivalent to removing 3,000 cars from the road or planting 46,000 trees.

PROJECT FACTS:

  • 12MW installed generating capacity utilising 8x 1.5MW Cummins gas fired generator sets.

  • Operating to supply electricity to QPME gas field compression equipment and peaking electricity production.

  • Abates up to 12,500 tCO2e per year, the equivalent of 3,000 cars off the road or planting 46,000 trees.
